Community
Community-based action groups contribute significantly to the fight to save our River and surrounds.
This section provides information about the work being done by these groups and contains links to sites holding broader environmental information.
The strength of community interest and involvement in environmental issues depends heavily on the level of public awareness.
Community Groups vary between states. There are some organisations which operate through all states, however their work is not directly focused on the river system but the environment as a whole.
Greening Australia
Encourages the community to conserve and plant native trees, shrubs and grasses They helps Australians to protect vegetation and biodiversity, repair and prevent land degradation, improve water quality and provide habitat for native fauna, Greening Australia is a national community organisation.
Landcare
Is an international organisation committed to balancing farming production with nature conservation. It brings together a whole range of independent groups to share experiences, gather information and take action in local communities. There are almost 5000 community Landcare groups working locally throughout Australia.
Conservation Volunteers Australia
The mission of Conservation Volunteers Australia is to attract and manage a force of volunteers in practical conservation projects for the betterment of the Australian environment. It was founded in 1982 in Ballarat, Victoria as the Australian Trust for Conservation Volunteers. Today they employ more than 120 full time staff.
