South Australia

Within the South Australian section of the Murray-Darling Basin there are eleven Local Action Planning Groups.

Local Action Planning is all about the local community and governments working together to ensure the long-term sustainability of their region.

Local Action Planning works through:

- Community Involvement
- Education and awareness on issues
- Coordinated action

They are working towards converting regional plans into practical projects that will address the big issues facing the Murray-Darling Basin.

River Murray Catchment Water Management Board.

Is in partnership with catchment communities and stakeholders and there task is to ensure the health of the river - South Australia's water lifeline.

The Board, which is appointed by the South Australian Minister for Water Resources, is currently preparing the River Murray Catchment Water Allocation Plans and Water Resources Plan. These are the key strategies that will help ensure the long-term future of the river in South Australia.

The aim of the Board is to achieve a sustainable balance between the economic, environmental and social needs of the River Murray catchment and its communities.

 

Trees For Life

Is a community based group dedicated to the revegetation of South Australia and the protection of its threatened and valuable bushland. With 10,000 members, Trees For Life is the largest environmental organisation of its kind in Australia. Their main activities are revegetation with local native seedlings through the Tree Scheme and Direct Seeding and protection of remnant bushland through Bush For Life.
