Victoria has Catchment Management Authorities their roles include:

1) Ensuring the sustainable development of natural resource based industries.

2) Maintain and where possible improve the quality of land and water resources.

3) Conserve natural and cultural heritage.

4) Involve the community in decisions relating to natural resources management 
    within their Region.

5) Advise on matters relating to catchment management and land protection and
    the condition of land and water resources in the Region.

6) Promote community awareness and understanding of the importance of land
     and water resources, their suitable use, conservation and rehabilitation.

An appointed Board is directly responsible for the development of strategic direction for land and water management in the region, setting priorities and evaluating the effectiveness of outcomes

Implementation Committees, open to local community input, are responsible for the development of detailed work programs and the oversight of on-ground program delivery for specific issues or sub-catchments.
