Why conserve water?

Less than 1% of the world's fresh water is available for human use.
For a continual supply of River Murray water we must maintain a healthy River.
One way to do this, is to reduce the amount of water we take out of the River.

Other reasons include:

 - Save money.
- Reduce infrastructure cost
- Decrease amount of wastewater to sewer
 - Decrease release of greenhouse gases

How do we save water?

Reduce - use less water through better water use practices e.g. water gardens in the morning, plant native vegetation as they require less watering, turn taps off when not using water, wash only when you have full loads, when purchasing new appliances look for water conservation labeling (Triple A rated).

Install tap timers on garden taps to prevent water wastage. ·

Repair leaks - fix leaky taps, toilets, hoses etc. ·

Retrofit - shower heads, dual flush toilets, tap restrictors, ·

Reuse water - installing rainwater tanks to use on the garden, to wash cars, windows etc.

What does Triple A rating mean on water use appliances?

The Water Conservation and labelling Scheme was launched nationally in October 1994 providing consumers with a simple way of choosing the most water efficient appliances and fittings.

The rating scheme indicates the water efficienty of various products using a five level ratings system from A (an moderate level of water efficiency) to AAAAA (an excellent level of water efficiency).

The scheme presently covers shower roses, dishwashers, toilet cisterns, urinal, tap flow regulators and washing machines. Other water using appliances will progressively be covered by the scheme.< /P >
