Study tour of the Lower Lakes and Coorong in South Australia

April 19th to 21st, 2006


A 3 day / 2 night tour which will take in the Lower Lakes, Murray Mouth and Coorong. The tour will incorporate the history, industries, and challenges of this area plus how the problems of salinity and water regulation need to be addressed from a Regional perspective.


On the First day, the tour will travel to Tailem Bend, Lake Alexandrina, Campbell House and the Tauwitchere Barrage Fish Passages. The Second will take in the Coorong, including the Salt Creek South East drainage outfall, the Wilderness Lodge and Camp Coorong. We will then return to Murray Bridge via the Pink Lake.The Third day incorporates the lower Fleurieu regions, Wellington, Langhorne Creek, Milang and Clayton before moving onto the Goolwa Barrage, the Murray Mouth and Hindmarsh Island. The bus will return to Murray Bridge for the conclusion of the tour.

62nd National Conference and AGM

September 21st to 23rd, 2006

 

The 62nd Murray Darling Association Conference and AGM will be held in Barham, NSW, over two days with an optional post conference tour.

 

The Murray Darling Association has membership of nearly 100 Local Government councils as well as community groups, businesses agencies across the Murray-Darling Basin. The Association provides a key focus for Local Government participation in natural resource management issues and land and water policies of the Basin.

"Supporting Communities in a Changing Rural Climate" will be the theme running through the conference which aims to provide an important knowledge exchange and network with Local Government and community members, state and federal natural resource management agencies and others in the same field. In turn strengthening relationships between the people making polices with those undertaking the work at the grass roots level to maintain the natural resource management.

Delegates will include a broad range of professionals who work in or with the water sector. Delegates will represent local government, community organisations, government agencies, water organisations, not-for-profit organisations, non-government associations, private consultancies, industry and the formal education sector (schools, vocational institutions and universities).

Cost: $250 (inc GST)

Includes: Civic Reception, Conference, Offical Dinner & AGM
